Suffolk Punch Horses
The Suffolk Punch breed began in Suffolk, England in the 1700's. Bred to be a working farm horse, the breed was nearly eliminated with the increased use of tractors after World War II. The breed is listed as "Critical" with the Livestock Breeds Conservacy, which indicates that there are fewer than 2000 of these animals worldwide.
The "Punch" refers to their stocky conformation as well as their ability to put their all into their work. They usually range in height from 15 to 17 hands tall and are chestnut in color. Suffolks are known for their calm and gentle dispositions and are well suited for driving, farm work, riding, logging, police work and horseback riding therapy.
